OpenScrapbook “52 Weeks of Gratitude”

Project 365 is the journey of taking one picture every day for a year. At the end of the year you will have a treasure of priceless memories! There aren’t any set “rules” for this project. Just one really! Take a picture every day! What you take photos of is completely up to you. You can document your baby or children for the year. You can capture all the little daily details of your family life! You can develop your skills in nature photography, learn your camera inside and out, take a self-portrait every day! The possibilities are endless!

A fun part of doing a Project 365 is sharing your photos! You can post them on your blogs, photo-sharing sites like Flickr, and even on Twitter! Just having a place to share your photos can be a great confidence builder and way to meet new people!

I highly recommend writing a bit about your daily photos. Add a little description of what was going on in the photo, of how you felt, or any other little details. Don’t forget to add the date! You’ll be able to look back and remember that special time in your life! There are several ways you can do this. Here are a few I recommend. Feel free to come up with what works best for you!

  • Post your photo on your blog and add your description below your photo.

  • Add a description when you upload your photo to Flickr.

  • Make a simple (or as fancy as you want!) scrapbook page with your photo.

  • Add your description directly onto your photo! This is super easy with your photo editing program. Just select the Text Tool, click somewhere on your photo where you’d like the text, and type away! This is one of my favorite methods of recording the details of my photo! It is so simple! In doing this, all the information is right on the photo! You can’t lose any information!

Remember, there are no hard and fast rules! If you miss a day here and there, don’t worry about it. It’s ok! This is a fun project and it doesn’t have to be stressful. Just have fun!! Keep your camera handy! Keep it somewhere you can grab it quickly if the moment strikes you! Put it on your kitchen counter, by your TV, on a bookshelf, anywhere that’s close!

In case you need an extra boost of inspiration, I have created a Project 365 Inspiration List for you to download and keep handy! Pick out a topic and ask for inspiration in finding photo opportunities. I like to say this, “I want to find ‘Delight’ (or whatever I pick that day) in my photos today.” Then picture in your mind what you’re looking for and go take some pictures! Then relax and enjoy your photo-taking experience. Believe me, this works! You’ll be amazed at what you notice once you have an idea in your mind of what you want!

At the end of the year, I plan to make a book out of my photos. It will be so fun looking back at my year, seeing how my girls have grown, watching my photography skills grow, and remembering all the little fun moments! I encourage you to think of a little reward like creating a book of your photos, something to look forward to throughout your journey. It will make the year so worth it!

We would like to invite you to participate in our OpenScrapbook Project 365 on January 1, 2010! We have a special Project 365 Gallery set up for you to share your favorite photos you’ve taken throughout the weeks. Misti and I will be looking through the gallery and will feature some of your photos in our special Project 365 Forum! We are so excited to start this journey with you!
